When a specialist business needed to expand its pallet storage, the challenge was to increase capacity while improving stock flow and making better use of the equipment already on site.
Used Racking UK developed a combined solution featuring new adjustable pallet racking, a high-density push-back system and the rebuild of the client's existing Apex pallet racking.
By combining three storage solutions, the installation created dedicated pallet storage, a designated area for incoming stock and an opportunity to extend the useful life of existing equipment.
The Solution
Used Racking UK designed a storage solution around three complementary systems, each serving a specific purpose within the warehouse operation.
New Adjustable Pallet Racking
The installation included 81 new bays of adjustable pallet racking, arranged across a combination of double-sided and single-sided runs. With frames reaching up to 9,005mm high and 3,300mm beams providing a uniformly distributed load capacity of up to 2,100kg per pair, the system created additional accessible pallet storage.
Push-Back Racking
An 18-lane push-back racking system was introduced to manage incoming pallets before they were transferred to their dedicated storage locations.
Each lane accommodates four pallets in height and six pallets in depth, creating a high-density storage area that makes efficient use of the available warehouse footprint while supporting the movement of stock through the operation.
Rebuilt Apex Pallet Racking
Rather than replacing all the existing equipment, Used Racking UK incorporated the client's Apex pallet racking into the new layout.
A total of 18 existing bays were rebuilt, each configured with three 700mm beam levels. This allowed the business to continue using its existing equipment as part of the expanded storage system.
The solution included:
81 new adjustable pallet racking bays
18 push-back racking lanes
Push-back storage six pallets deep and four pallets high
18 existing Apex pallet racking bays rebuilt
Frame heights of up to 9,005mm
3,300mm standard beam length
2,100kg UDL per pair on 3,300mm beams
Three 700mm beam levels per rebuilt Apex bay
The Result
The completed installation delivered a more versatile warehouse storage system, combining increased capacity with improved stock organisation and more effective use of existing equipment.
The new adjustable pallet racking provides accessible storage for dedicated pallet locations, while the push-back system creates a high-density area for managing incoming stock. Rebuilding the existing Apex racking also allowed the business to bring 18 bays back into use as part of the wider solution.
