For a growing specialist bathroom retailer, increasing warehouse capacity came with a significant challenge. The warehouse was already occupied and full of stock, meaning the installation needed to take place without emptying the building or bringing day to day operations to a standstill.
Used Racking UK developed a carefully planned phased installation, allowing each completed section of racking to create the space needed for the next.
Across four phases, 291 bays of Used Apex Pallet Racking were installed, progressively increasing storage capacity while keeping stock moving throughout the project.
The Solution
Used Racking UK planned the installation across four separate areas, with each phase designed to work around the retailer's existing stock and operations.
Area 1 began with 72 bays of 6.45m high racking, featuring ground level plus three beam levels. Once completed, stock could be moved into the new racking, immediately freeing up floor space for the next phase.
The newly created space then allowed Areas 2 and 3 to be installed, adding a further 99 bays. These areas also featured 6.45m high frames with ground level plus three beam levels.
With stock progressively moved into the completed sections, the final area could then be cleared for Area 4, the largest phase of the installation. This added a further 120 bays using a 4.5m high configuration with ground level plus two beam levels.
Across the project, the system used 1.1m deep frames and 2.7m beams, with a capacity of 3,000kg per level.
The solution included:

4,500 to 6,450mm frame heights
1,100mm frame depth
2,700mm clear beam entry

The completed installation delivered 291 bays of additional pallet racking while allowing the retailer's warehouse operation to continue throughout the project.
By carefully sequencing each phase, every completed area created the space needed to progress to the next. This meant stock could continue moving through the warehouse without requiring the entire unit to be emptied or operations to stop.
